When i was younger i would occasionally get music on the form of a cassette tape. Since i didn’t have a formal allowance this would depend on being somewhere with my mom while shopping and begging to get a cassette.
At this time in the 80’s i think the parental music warning was already in place, or even if it wasn’t, the ability to get something depending upon what the title and cover art. I remember one debate between a demonic looking Dio cover and Motley Crue Girls Girls Girls. I ended up getting the Motley Crue cassette.
In any event getting only the occasional cassette meant that i listened to it alot and thoroughly. This had the added benefit of increasing my enjoyment of it (see my Medium post where i discuss the Top 40 effect and the same concept of this post…
In the era of streaming we don’t rarely listen to an entire album and have way too much available. I postulate that this leads to a decrease in our enjoyment
When I commuted in Chicago with my CD collection and before my unlimited streaming plan and just as Spotify and podcasts were getting popular..) I would relisten to CD”s over and over.. or have the radio. Don Ross- Passion Session was one in particular.
Repeat listening is that it can increase your enjoyment. Also alot of memories become linked to it.
